My name is Javan Johnson, and I am extremely excited to be teaching at BCCIS. I was born and raised in a beautiful city called Nelson,in British Columbia. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing from Vancouver Island University and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia, and I’ve spent the past two years teaching and coaching at a tiny rural high school in BC. I’ve been mostly teaching English and Physical Education in the senior grades, with some Social Studies and Business courses. One of my favourite things to do is to watch and play sports, including hockey, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. I have coached high school volleyball teams for over 6 years, but I coach other sports as well, including soccer. My other passion is music. I sing in a band in Canada and play many instruments, including the guitar and violin. I love to write songs in my spare time. My favourite part about being a teacher is connecting and learning from my students, and no matter the subject, inspiring them to become critical and creative thinkers and educated citizens of the world. I’m incredibly looking forward to meeting all the wonderful students and parents in Egypt at BCCIS.
